The Weeding..or something like that.

When my good friend L.M Stull placed a writing prompt last night, The Wedding I thought it would be great fun. The tag is, "write a wedding story, BUT write it from the point of view of the wedding bouquet." It didn't take long for my sick mind to come up with something. So here it is, The Weeding, err, Wedding.

Things just never work out as planted. One minute I'm rooted in the best area ever, a roof over my head, my roots deep and happy with the mixture. That was until the beast came.

I've seen this over a dozen times, she will come with those sharp cutters, feel every one until she finds just what she is looking for. Then; snip, snip, another life over. She looked real hard; it took her a while to get to me. Her touch sent vibrations throughout my system, I suppose it tickled. Then the cutters appeared from out of nowhere. That's when everything went dark.

My stem was soaked; I think that's what woke me, and also the feeling that my roots were gone. They were just lopped off with no regards to my feelings. I was surprised when I noticed my reflection.

They had put me on a large tube to help me stand up, other bits and pieces were added, even pink lace.

PINK LACE! I felt like that was so wrong, but after an hour or two I got use to it.

After looking at my surrounds I guessed I was in a death house. Every so often someone world stare at me, then at another grouping before grabbing one, then they would leave. I never saw any return. I just couldn't keep my thoughts together about this place, what it was, why all of us were even here. Recognizing some that were taken last week eased my mind a little, until the burly creature opened the case and wrapped her clammy paws around me.

Fear of what she had in mind shriveled one or two of my leaves, which she quickly pulled off. The pain screaming through my system as the petals floated to the ground.
She plopped me down on a hard surface, emitting scary noises from the hole in her face.

Suddenly, I was smothered with some green stuff and the large one grabbed me and walked out into the cold snowy weather.
‘What are they doing to me?’

I was thrown down in a pile of soft things, and had the impression I was moving, yet not moving.
It seemed like an eternity until I heard the fat beast grumble and the movement stopped. Her filthy paws grabbed me again, moving my stems around until I looked better, in her opinion. I wanted to tell her to take out the pink lace, but I didn’t know how to communicate with it.

The beast moved quickly, the cold air almost freezing me before I was in a place all bright and dry – quiet. Then the beast handed me to another, thinner and better looking beast. I was surrounded by them, all cooing, wanting to touch me. It was sickening.

Finally I felt the end approach as the thin one grabbed hold of me and started walking into a larger room; this was filled with more beasts – bringers of death. They all stared at me, or were they staring at the creature holding me in front of her like a shield for protection.

It came to a stop finally in front of an older, thinner creature dressed in robes from head to toe. I knew this was it, this was the end. This older creature – it would be my undoing.

We stayed there for what seemed like an eternity, I could feel myself drying out – I knew the end was closer than I thought.

Suddenly, without warning, I was pressed between two of the ugly beasts as they ate each other’s faces. I expected blood, but none came. Then we were moving again. I was thrown onto a pedestal as the creatures mingled, deciding what to do with me I imagined.

Another eternity passed, I was hoping this would be what I wanted, death or water, I would have been happy with either. With one hand, the thin pretty creature raised me above its head and what I saw almost wilted me right there. In front of me, what looked like hundreds of them, arms out stretched, waiting eagerly for something.

That something was me as I flew through the air, sailing into their midst, they fought for me, tooth and nail, only one would get the prize, the final Harbinger of Death.
A thinner, younger one caught me and everyone started making frightening noises.
It was horrible, I wilted some more.

Then it quieted down again and I was carried off to another place. The suspense was driving me leafless. I wanted to yell, “Just do it! Get it over with!” No one listened, no one cared.

Then I realized it was a little different. This wasn’t too bad, the one that caught me seemed happy that she did, and it wasn’t as menacing as I thought it would be.

Then I saw the original fat one that I first saw earlier. She bounced over and made noises to my new captor.

The thin one suddenly put me down beside her and stood up, grabbing the fatter one. I thought they were going to fight over me, but there was no yelling, just cooing.

Well, I could get use to this, I thought. I knew now I would survive for a little while longer.
The thin one returned and sat next to me, the larger one stood right next to me for a few seconds before she also sat down...on top of me. The last thing I remember is more crying, screaming. My flowers scattered all over the place – my stems crumbled in despair.
I suppose it was the end after all.
